SAP Workshop-Digital Transformation Info Day
SAP Workshop-Digital Transformation Info Day

The hottest topic in business today is Digital Transformation.  But what does it really mean?  What are the challenges and opportunities businesses around the world experience as they become a digital enterprise?  What are the opportunities for your university, your teaching and your students?  Explore the trend from an industry and academic perspective, then learn how you can bring this exciting topic into your classroom through the SAP University Alliances Network.

Special guest Professor Key Pousttchi, SAP Endowed Chair for Business Informatics and Digitalization at the University of Potsdam, will share his research with participants.  He will additionally facilitate the second half of the workshop during the deep dive focusing on digital transformation at your university, your classroom and your students.

Chair: Vic Matta - Ohio University

Vic Matta, Raymond D. Frost - Ohio University

Prepared, engaged students…a college classroom humming with active learning…time for rich, structured problem-solving. What professor wouldn't jump at the chance to create a learning environment like this?

Team-based learning (TBL) has been FLIPPING classrooms for over 35 years. It works equally well in small and large classes; in fact, some people think it actually works better in larger classes. Learn how to get your students to come to class prepared and then how to use that preparation to "flip" your classroom so that class time can be better spent helping students learn how to apply course concepts to solve significant problems.

Doctoral Student Corner Networking Break: Talking Effectively about Your Teaching and Research
Stop by during your break and participate in some round table discussions or meet other students and fill out your scavenger hunt cards. The suggested round table topic of this break is the importance of a good elevator speech (a.k.a., how to give a meaningful but brief description of your dissertation project and teaching interests). Various faculty will be participating in the discussions and giving feedback about how to communicate your research.

Witman - California Lutheran University

Inclusion, Engagement, Empowerment – Information systems can help to make or break these results. How can our research, across a range of IS specializations, help promote social inclusion across gender, ethnicity, socio-economic status, and other divides? This PDS will focus on engaging AIS members from a variety of specializations to consider how social inclusion might factor into their research. As examples, online funds transfer models, such as M-Pesa in Africa, have the impact of including more people in a broader economy, and info systems can be used to help or hinder people’s access to all sorts of things, including health care. Come join a lively discussion of active research projects across at least 10 SIGs, areas where social inclusion research may have an impact, and connect with potential research collaborations to support your studies in this area.

In 2014, AIS launched a new journal dedicated to replication research: AIS Transactions on Replication Research, with a mission to publish replication research. The PDS will have three parts.  First, we will define replication and describe how to conduct and write-up replication research articles.  This includes three different types of replications: exact replications, methodological replications and theoretical replications. Second, we will present two examples of recent replication research and show how they advance science. Third, we will have an open discussion of replication research, with a chance to ask questions and debate issues.
